DESCRIPTION

The St. Gertrude the Great Rosary draws its inspiration from one of the Church’s great medieval mystics—a Benedictine nun whose extraordinary devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus anticipated a devotion that would flourish throughout the Church centuries later.

The design is intentionally stark: black and deep red.

Black stained wood gives the rosary a monastic character, recalling the hidden life of prayer and contemplation in which St. Gertrude encountered Christ so intimately. Red Jasper Our Father beads break through the darkness in a deep, blood-red hue, calling to mind both the Precious Blood of Christ and His Sacred Heart—two themes deeply suited to Gertrude's spirituality.

Her writings reveal a remarkable tenderness toward the Heart of Christ. In one famous account, St. Gertrude rested her head near the wound in Christ's side and heard the beating of His Heart. Her spirituality was not simply intellectual contemplation, but an intensely personal encounter with the love of God poured out through Christ.

St. Gertrude is also widely associated today with prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, making this rosary particularly fitting for those who regularly offer their Rosary for the faithful departed.

Finished with antique bronze-toned Italian hardware and rugged brown paracord, the St. Gertrude the Great Rosary has a dark, contemplative appearance appropriate to a saint whose life was spent looking beyond the visible world toward eternity.
