“You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church.” — Matthew 16:18

The St. Peter Rosary marks a milestone for Runewood Rosary Co.: our first rosary featuring completely original, custom-designed, exclusive USA-made pewter hardware.

Its design begins on the shores of Galilee - and our desire to proclaim the truth of Christ's Church.

Before Peter was the Rock, he was a fisherman. His life was one of boats, nets, deep water, and long nights on the sea. When the crowds pressed around Jesus on the shore of the Lake of Gennesaret, Christ stepped into a boat so that He could teach them from the water.

The boat belonged to Peter.

It is a small detail with profound resonance. The fisherman whose boat became a place from which Christ taught the crowds would become the Apostle to whom Christ entrusted the keys of the Kingdom.

Throughout the Gospels, Peter occupies a distinctive place among the Twelve. He speaks on their behalf. Christ prays particularly for him and commands him to strengthen his brethren. After the Resurrection, Christ entrusts His flock to Peter with the threefold command, “Feed my sheep.” And at Caesarea Philippi, Simon receives both a new name and a remarkable commission:

“You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church.”

That declaration is permanently incorporated into this rosary.

The reverse of our custom St. Peter centerpiece bears the Latin inscription:

SUPER HANC PETRAM AEDIFICABO ECCLESIAM MEAM

“Upon this rock I will build my Church.”

On the front, Peter appears bearing the keys entrusted to him by Christ—a symbol of the authority given to the fisherman who would become the first Pope.

The entire color palette draws from these two dimensions of Peter's life. Espresso-stained American-made wooden beads recalls the boats and working life of the fisherman, while deep blue Dumortierite gemstone evokes the waters of Galilee: the waters Peter worked upon, walked upon, sank into, and was lifted from by Christ.

At the center of it all is hardware made specifically for this rosary. Both the crucifix and St. Peter centerpiece are Runewood original designs, made in Fargo, ND USA from pewter—the first full custom hardware set created for a Runewood Rosary.

From the boat to the keys.
From Simon to Peter.
From fisherman to Rock.
