The Charity Rosary
DESCRIPTION
The Charity Rosary
The Charity Rosary is dedicated to the virtue at the very heart of the Christian life: supernatural love of God above all things and love of our neighbor for the sake of God.
Christian charity is more than generosity, kindness, or affection. It is the love by which we are drawn toward God and, through Him, learn to love others—even when that love demands sacrifice. Christ gives us its perfect expression upon the Cross: “Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
The design of the Charity Rosary reflects that sacrificial character. Gray-brown stained wood Hail Mary beads give the rosary an earthy, subdued foundation, while Ice Obsidian gemstone Our Father beads introduce deep, translucent tones throughout the decades. Crimson-red USA-made paracord runs through the entire rosary, deliberately recalling the Blood of Christ—the ultimate expression of a love that gives itself completely for another.
The bronze-toned hardware reinforces the rosary’s warm, traditional appearance. An Italian-made Miraculous Medal forms the centerpiece, recalling the Blessed Virgin Mary and her complete gift of herself to God: from her fiat at the Annunciation to her presence beneath the Cross. An Italian-made Pardon Crucifix brings the design back to the source and measure of Christian charity—Jesus Christ crucified.
As one of the virtues traditionally opposed to the Seven Deadly Sins, charity stands against greed and the inward turn of the heart toward possession and self-interest. Where greed asks what can be kept for oneself, charity asks what can be given. The Christian model is Christ Himself, who “emptied himself” and gave His life for the salvation of the world.
Handmade in the Fargo, North Dakota area by local Catholics, the Charity Rosary is designed for daily prayer and as a tangible reminder that holiness ultimately requires learning to love as Christ loves.
Jesus, increase in us the virtue of charity.
