The Exorcist Files x Battle Ready | Vade Retro Rosary | Fr. Carlos Martins & Fr. Dan Reehil Collaboration

“Vade retro Satana” — “Begone, Satan.”

The Vade Retro Rosary was created in collaboration with two Catholic priests whose ministries have brought the reality of spiritual warfare and the power of Christ over evil to an enormous audience: Fr. Carlos Martins of The Exorcist Files and Fr. Dan Reehil of Battle Ready.

Fr. Carlos Martins is a Catholic priest and exorcist with nearly two decades of ministry. Through The Exorcist Files, Fr. Martins opens his actual case files to listeners through dramatized accounts while providing Catholic teaching about the demonic, exorcism, temptation, conversion, and the spiritual life. The purpose of the enormously popular podcast is not fascination with darkness, but to direct people toward Christ and teach them how the Catholic faith understands and responds to evil. Fr. Martins also leads Treasures of the Church, an evangelization ministry centered upon encounters with the relics of the saints.

Fr. Dan Reehil is a priest and the appointed exorcist of the Diocese of Nashville, pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, and National Director of Radio Maria USA. Through his Battle Ready ministry and daily radio program, Fr. Reehil teaches Catholics about spiritual warfare through Scripture, Church Tradition, prayer, the Sacraments, and the ordinary disciplines of Catholic life. Battle Ready describes its mission as forming Catholics who are prepared to stand firm in their faith and advance the Gospel and Kingdom of God.

It is this shared emphasis that forms the heart of the Vade Retro Rosary. Spiritual warfare is not a fascination with demons, nor is the Rosary a talisman. The Christian response to evil is Christ: remaining in His grace, receiving the Sacraments, rejecting sin, praying faithfully, and entrusting ourselves to God. That message runs through both The Exorcist Files and Battle Ready.

The name Vade Retro comes from the ancient Christian formula incorporated into the Medal of St. Benedict: “Vade retro Satana” — “Begone, Satan.” The words form part of the longer prayer represented by the initials surrounding the medal, rejecting the temptations of the devil and turning instead toward Christ.

That connection is carried directly into the construction of this rosary. At its center is Runewood Rosary Co.'s exclusive USA-made St. Benedict Medal, paired with our exclusive USA-made crucifix. Charcoal-stained wood Hail Mary beads give the rosary its dark, restrained appearance, while the deep blue Dumortierite gemstone Our Father beads deliberately call to mind the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the Church’s tradition of spiritual warfare, Mary holds a particular place as the Mother of Christ and the woman whose offspring crushes the serpent’s head—a theme long associated with Genesis 3:15. Exorcists have likewise spoken of the particular hatred demons bear toward the Blessed Virgin because of her humility, obedience to God, and unique relationship with her Son. The blue beads therefore provide more than a visual contrast: they place a distinctly Marian presence throughout a rosary devoted to resisting evil through Christ. Everything is bound together with black USA-made 95 paracord.

Handmade by local Catholics in the Fargo, North Dakota area, the Vade Retro Rosary was created to be carried and prayed—to accompany the ordinary Catholic life of prayer that both Fr. Martins and Fr. Reehil continually call the faithful to embrace.
